We are deeply saddened by the death of Dr Antonio Brack Egg, Peru's first minister of the environment. He passed away on 30th December 2014.

Dr Brack was a pioneering conservationist who established the Ministry of the Environment and then was minister from 2005 to 2010. The creation of the ministry and protected area service that forms part of it has probably been the greatest single contribution to the conservation of Peru's biodiversity. FZS first collaborated with him in the 1970s in the conservation of the endangered Vicuña; a programme that saved the species from near extinction.

Dr Antonio Brack Egg continued to be very supportive of FZS's work even after his retirement and visited the offices in Frankfurt in 2010.
