In Memory of Felipe Cruz
On the death of a great conservationist

We are deeply saddened by the news of the sudden death of Felipe Cruz on 9 August 2018 at the age of 60. Born on the island of Floreana, Galapagos was his lifelong passion. Over the years, Felipe Cruz held different positions with the Charles Darwin Foundation (CDF) and the Galapagos National Park (GNP). FZS Executive Director Christof Schenck remebers Felipe Cruz as a great conservationist: “Felipe was a driving force for conservation in Galapagos. He knew everything about the islands, he was always full of energy and he worked hard with the teams of CDF and GNP on one of the largest island restoration programmes on Isabela. It is tragic that his life path has ended.”
FZS worked in Galapagos for more than 40 years for the protection of biodiversity in this outstanding World Heritage Site and to the present day supports the Charles Darwin Foundation with donations from our members and sponsors. Our thoughts are with Felipe’s family, his friends and colleagues at this sad time. We are truly sorry for their loss.
