Conservation

We believe that wilderness areas should be conserved for generations to come. Our conservation efforts work on an 'ecosystem approach' focusing on wild lands, wildlife and sustainable development for nearby communities.

Ranger training

Protected areas worldwide face a variety of pressures from increasing tourism to poaching and human encroachment.

We help equip many of our project areas with more robust, effective anti-poaching operations and highly trained ranger forces. Security for protected areas and long-term stability of their respective wildlife populations is paramount. Our field staff focus training in all aspects of anti-poaching, law enforcement and resource protection efforts.

Fight Poaching

Safety in the protected areas is the foundation for a long-term successful nature conservation.

For many African countries one of the most important natural resources is threatend: the great wilderness areas and their wealth of species. With natural tourism as one of the biggest foreign exchange providers in the world, its economic development is also impaired.

Our goal is to contribute to the protection of wildlife in our project areas. Safety in the project areas is the foundation for successful nature conservation work.

Wildlife Monitoring

By monitoring the wildlife in the areas we work, we are able to better inform decision-making and management plans.

We primarily focus on supporting protection, management and monitoring of protected areas, to safeguard the species and ecosystems within our project areas. We want to ensure that the status of our current priority conservation areas are maintained or even improved where there is such potential.

Education

People play an integral role in protecting natural resources.

We teach the importance of preserving natural resources and work on addressing and reducing human-wildlife conflict issues. By raising awareness and understanding of the conservation benefits, communities will gain a sense of empathy, ownership and responsibility for protecting their wild lands and wildlife.

Community Conservation

Communities are critical to the success of conservation.

Protected areas are not islands, but part of a larger landscape that often incorporates a diverse and dynamic range of land use types, socio-economic activities and cultural practices. We work with local communities to raise conservation awareness and promote sustainable use of natural resources.

Capacity building

We believe we can have a greater impact in areas with limited existing capacity.

We work closely with governments and other organisations to build institutional capacity and create an ‘enabling environment’ for conservation action. We aim to ensure our projects are supported by national and international policies and that they have a long-term impact.
