Elephants' Family Values

For this years' World Elephant Day, we asked our field staff to share their most memorable elephant experiences. Here are their stories.

My elephant story: Living in Serengeti, you get to see many different animals, but elephants l respect most. One day my colleagues and I were on our way home from the office in a car and we saw a big group of elephants huddle together right by the road in front of us. We wanted to know what was going on and as we approached, we realized one of them was giving birth!

It was impossible to pass, because the other elephants were standing guard. Every time we tried to pass they would charge us. We stayed two hours until they started to move away - with a newborn calf among them. I love them, they work together and protect their family.
