Annual Report 2005

FZS 2005 Annual Report with prospects for 2006.

09/15/2006, Kasia Rabel

Dear members, sponsors, partners and friends,

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Report of the Frankfurt Zoo- logical Society of 1858 and our «Help for Threatened Wildlife» Foundation. In the following pages you can learn more about our efforts all over the globe to preserve biodiversity for the future. A solid financial basis is essential for this work, and this report offers an overview of our finances. As in the past, our accounting and financial statements have received the unqualified approval of the auditing firm elected by our membership.

Bernhard and Michael Grzimek’s documentary «Serengeti Shall Not Die» was not only a success around the world – in 1959 it was a visionary message for generations to come. With its unique wildebeest migration and hundreds of thousands of animals, the Grzimeks recognized that the Serengeti had to be saved. And their plea was not in vain. On the contrary, the Serengeti lives on today in a fashion that could not be more extraordinary. And the FZS continues to play a crucial role. But our successes are of course your doing.Your support and trust over many years makes our work possible.

Today the activities of the FZS stretch from the Serengeti in northern Tanzania to the coastal rainforests of Brazil, where we work to protect Golden Lion Tamarins.Wherever we are, your support makes possible our efforts to preserve threatened species and habitats. In 2005 the FZS and «Help for Threatened Wildlife» once again benefited greatly from your generosity. We are always particularly pleased when you take a personal event as the occasion for a donation – what better indication of your commitment to our common cause could there possibly be!

On behalf of the FZS Board and Foundation, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to all of our members, donors and friends. This same sentiment also goes out to our partners all over the world as well as our dedicated staff. Meticulousness, foresight and enthusiasm are what characterize the FZS team in Germany and abroad as well as our many partners – and you can count on our continued commitment in the future.
